In the heart of the estate, halfway up the hill overlooking the Orcia river, in a moderately oblique point towards the south is the Poggio al Vento vineyard. The name literally means “hill exposed to the wind” and this aspect in conjunction with the particular composition of the soil produces the exceptional Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento which is produced only in the best vintages and represents one of the highest expressions of pure Sangiovese. which can be found in Montalcino.
Vineyards: Hilly lands facing south. Poggio al Vento, altitude 350 meters a.s.l. Planted in 1974.
Grapes: Sangiovese 100%:
Vinification: the grapes are particular clones of Sangiovese, locally called Brunello. Manual harvest with rigorous selection of the best bunches carried out first in the vineyard and then on a sorting belt in the cellar. Fermentation at a controlled temperature below 30 ° C. Maceration lasting 25 days in low and wide stainless steel tanks (greater contact between the skins and the must with greater polyphenolic extraction). Daily punching down in the morning, pumping over in the evening, followed by an aging period of 4 years in Allier and Slavonian oak barrels followed by over 2 years of bottle aging, all in air-conditioned environments.
Tasting notes: with an intense ruby red color with slight garnet reflections, the nose is inviting, enveloping and still youthful. The fruit of the great perfectly ripe Sangiovese dominates the intriguing spices of oak. In the mouth the result is a unique combination of power and elegance. Remarkable tannic texture but of great finesse. It leaves the palate impressed by a myriad of pleasant sensations.
Pairings: Game, stewed meats and aged cheeses
Format: 750 ml
