Avignonesi 50&50 Toscana IGT (2018)
From the friendship that binds the owners of Avignonesi in Montepulciano and Capannelle in Chianti, comes 50&50. The first vintage of 50&50 was 1988: during a jovial dinner the former owners of the two wineries began to compare their wines and obtained this exceptional blend of 50% Sangiovese from Capannelle and 50% Merlot from Avignonesi. The legend in a bottle.
Grape varieties: 50% Sangiovese, 50% Merlot
Vineyards: Merlot is produced by Avignonesi, on the Lodola estate in Valiano di Montepulciano, in southern Tuscany. Sangiovese is produced by Capannelle, a farm located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico.
Harvest harvest: for Merlot it takes place between 10 and 25 September, for Sangiovese from mid-September to mid-October.
Vinification: for Merlot, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and maceration on the skins for 20-25 days. For Sangiovese, however, 10 days of maceration at a controlled temperature.
Aging: the Merlot matures in 225 liter oak barriques while the Sangiovese in 30 hl barriques and wooden vats.
Tasting Notes: dark ruby red in color with purple hues, the nose expresses a fragrance of small red fruits, blackcurrants, black cherries and blueberries with notes of undergrowth and sweet spices such as vanilla. In the mouth it is soft with elegant tannins, in the attack there are hints of ripe fruit and spices and in aftertaste a marked balsamic note of mint and thyme. Long taste-olfactory persistence.
Pairing: ideal with red meat, perfect with a veal shank with cider.
Format: 750 ml
